Zhivopisnaia Ukraina
Zhivopisnaia Ukraina (Picturesque Ukraine). A series of etchings by Taras Shevchenko depicting Ukrainian landscapes, significant events in the history of Ukrainian Cossacks, and scenes from peasant life. Only one album, of six etchings with commentary by Shevchenko, was published, in Saint Petersburg in 1844. Shevchenko planned to publish more albums but was unable to do so. In 1861–2 Lev Zhemchuzhnikov published, under the same title, an album of 49 etchings by Russian and Ukrainian artists, such as Ivan Sokolov, Kostiantyn Trutovsky, A. Beideman, and V. Vereshchagin, as a supplement to the journal Osnova (Saint Petersburg).
