Zalensky, Volodymyr
Zalensky, Volodymyr [Заленський, Володимир; Zalens'kyj], b 7 February 1847 in Shakhvorostivka, near Myrhorod, Poltava gubernia, d 21 October 1918 in Sevastopol, Tavriia gubernia. Zoologist and embryologist; member of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Sciences from 1897. A graduate of Kharkiv University (1867), he was a professor at Kazan University (from 1871) and Odesa University (from 1882) and director of the Zoological Museum in Saint Petersburg (from 1897). He specialized in the comparative embryological development of invertebrates and chordates.
