Vasyliv, Mykola

Vasyliv, Mykola [Васильїв, Микола; Vasyl'jiv], b 22 June 1901 in Khodorkiv, Skvyra county, Kyiv gubernia, d 19 March 1961 in Oberammergau, Germany. Economist and pedagogue; full member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society from 1947; son of Mykhailo Vasyliv. After graduating from the Kyiv Institute of the National Economy (1922) and Kyiv University (1924) he studied under Kostiantyn Vobly at the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. In 1930–41 he was an associate and academic secretary of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of the Food Industry. A postwar displaced person and émigré in West Germany, he was a professor (from 1946) and rector (1955–6) of the Ukrainian Free University in Munich. He wrote studies of the food industry in Ukraine, of the theory of value, and of the history of co-operatives in France.
