Union of Ukrainian Veterans

Union of Ukrainian Veterans (Союз українських ветеранів; Soiuz ukrainskykh veteraniv, or СУВ; SUV). An émigré association of former Ukrainian soldiers in various armies. It was founded in Neu-Ulm, Germany, in 1945 to cultivate Ukrainian military traditions and provide aid to needy members. In 1948 it had over 2,000 members in more than 50 branches. As Ukrainians emigrated from Germany, branches of the SUV sprang up in Austria, Great Britain, Belgium, Holland, Argentina, and Australia. The head office was in Munich. Ten issues of the union’s magazine, Ukraïns'kyi kombatant, were published. The presidents of SUV have included Gen Mykhailo Omelianovych-Pavlenko, Col V. Tatarsky, Col Mykola Stechyshyn, and R. Debrytsky.
