Union of Song and Music Societies

Union of Song and Music Societies (Soiuz spivats’kykh i muzychnykh tovarystv). An organization for the promotion of music in Western Ukraine, founded in Lviv in 1903 by Volodymyr Shukhevych and Anatol Vakhnianyn at the first convention of the Boian choruses. The union's main initiative was to open a school, which was reorganized into the Lysenko Higher Institute of Music (1912). In 1907 the association was renamed the Lysenko Music Society in Lviv.
