Tuchapsky, Makarii

Tuchapsky, Makarii [Тучапський, Макарій; Tučaps'kyj, Makarij], b ?, d 1549. Orthodox bishop. He served as administrator of Halych eparchy (1535–9) before being consecrated, in 1539, as bishop by Metropolitan Makarii II of Kyiv, and thereby becoming the first bishop of the eparchy in 80 years. He was thrown into conflict with the Polish Catholic archbishop of Lviv, who had tried to install his own candidate in the position and exert control over the see. Tuchapsky called the Lviv sobor of 1539, which did much to improve affairs in the Lviv eparchy.
