Trukh, Hryhorii Andrii
Trukh, Hryhorii Andrii [Трух, Григорій Андрій; Trux, Hryhorij Andrij], b 18 February 1894 in Stryi, Galicia, d 9 May 1959 in Grimsby, Ontario. Basilian priest and writer. After interrupting his theological studies in Lviv to enter the ranks of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen during the First World War, he joined the Basilian monastic order in 1920 and was ordained in 1926. He had a Kholm region posting until 1932, when he was sent to Canada. There he edited the religious periodical Svitlo (1943–6) and wrote several popular religious books and pamphlets, including Zhyttia sviatykh (The Lives of the Saints, 4 vols, 1958), and a Ukrainian grammar (1947).
