Strelsky, Viacheslav

Strelsky, Viacheslav [Стрельський, В’ячеслав; Strel's'kyj, Vjačeslav], b 28 September 1910 in Kursk, Russia, d 11 August 1983 in Kyiv. Historian. After graduating from the Moscow Historical-Archival Institute (1935) he was director of oblast archives in Mykolaiv and a teacher at the Mykolaiv Pedagogical Institute (from 1937). During the Second World War he worked in the NKVD archival division in Omsk and published two studies of Siberian political history. From 1944 he worked at Kyiv University as archives director, head of the chair of archival studies at the department of history, and editor in chief of the university’s scholarly collection Naukovi zapysky Kyïvs'koho universytetu (14 vols) and its historical series of Visnyk Kyïvs'koho universytetu. He wrote Dzhereloznavstvo istoriï SRSR (A Study of Sources for the History of the USSR, 1958; Russian edn 1962) and coauthored Derzhavni arkhivy Ukraïns'koï RSR (State Archives of the Ukrainian SSR, 1972).
