Savchenko, Pavlo
Savchenko, Pavlo [Савченко, Павло; Savčenko], b 28 July 1887 in Zhabky (now Lutsenky), Lokhvytsia county, Poltava gubernia, d 1920 in Romny, Poltava gubernia. Symbolist poet; brother of Yakiv Savchenko. A graduate of a teachers' seminary in Poltava, he taught in Krovne (1908–10), Velyka Pysarivka (1910–12), and Derkachi (1912–14, 1918–19), in Kharkiv gubernia. From 1909 his poems and prose-poems appeared in various periodicals. He wrote the collection Mii smikh, moia zaduma: Epilohy (My Laughter, My Melancholy: Epilogues, 1913) and a collection in Russian, Penie pul’ (The Singing of Bullets, 1916).
