Sarnytsky, Klyment Karol
Sarnytsky, Klyment Karol [Сарницький, Климент Кароль; Sarnyc'kyj], b 31 October 1832 in Lviv, d 8 October 1909 in Lviv. Basilian priest and church activist in Galicia. He taught biblical studies at Lviv University (from 1867) and served several terms as dean and rector of theology. In 1867 he was also appointed hegumen of Saint Onuphrius's Church and Monastery in Lviv. He oversaw the reform of the Basilian monastic order in the Galician province by the Jesuits in 1882–1904, and in 1902 he was appointed archimandrite. Sarnytsky wrote a Hebrew grammar textbook in Polish, an elucidation of the Psalms and other biblical songs, and various other religious scholarly works in such religious journals, as Dushpastyr (Lviv) and Ruskii Sion.
