Ostrovsky, Yosyp
Ostrovsky, Yosyp [Островський, Йосип; Ostrovs'kyj, Josyp], b 6 April 1934 in Dnipropetrovsk, d 29 November 2020 in Ankara, Turkey. Mathematician; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR from 1978. After graduating from Kharkiv University in 1956, he taught there (professor since 1967) and worked at the Physical-Technical Institute of Low Temperatures in Kharkiv from 1969. He moved to Turkey in 1993 and taught at Bilkent University in Ankara. Ostrovsky’s basic research is in the theory of functions and the theory of probability. Among other results, he explained the connection between the asymptotic behavior of the menomorphic function and its distribution of values.
