Niaradi, Dionisii

Niaradi, Dionisii [Няраді, Діонісій; Njaradi, Dionisij], b 10 October 1874 in Ruski Krstur, Bačka region, Serbia, d 4 April 1940 in Mrzlo Polje, Bačka region. Ukrainian Catholic bishop in Yugoslavia. He was ordained in 1889 and was rector of the Greek Catholic theological seminary in Zagreb in 1902–14. In 1915 he was consecrated as the first locally born bishop of Križevci eparchy. Active in supporting Ukrainian causes, he ensured that his priests were trained as conscious Ukrainians, and he maintained close relations with Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytsky and church circles in Galicia. Niaradi also served the church in Transcarpathia during various crises: he acted as apostolic administrator for Prešov eparchy in 1922–7 and apostolic visitator for Mukachevo eparchy in 1938–9.
