Nazaruk, Serhii

Nazaruk, Serhii [Назарук, Сергій], b 4 October 1896 in Volodymyr-Volynskyi, Volhynia gubernia, d 1952 in Kemerovsk oblast, RSFSR. After serving in the Russian army as an engineer and sapper, he established a Ukrainian sapper regiment, which was attached to the Army of the Ukrainian National Republic. He returned after the Revolution of 1917 to Volodymyr-Volynskyi, where he became active in the Prosvita society. In 1923 he was elected to the Polish Sejm as a replacement for Vasyl Komarevych. He moved his support from the Ukrainian Club to the Sel-Soiuz faction. He did not support the group's merger into Sel-Rob, however, and in 1926 he broke ranks with the latter, together with Pavlo Vasynchuk, in order to re-establish Sel-Soiuz. After the Second World War he was arrested by the Soviet authorities in 1946 and sent to seven years in the GULAG concentration camp.
