Mykolaiv National University

Mykolaiv National University [Миколаївський національний університет ім. В. Сухомлинського; Mykolaivskyi nationalnyi universytet im. V. Sukhomlynskoho]. An institution of higher education in Mykolaiv under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine. Founded in 1913 as a teachers' institute, in 1920 it became an institute of people's education. In 1930 it was transformed into one of the institutes of social education, and in 1933 it became the Mykolaiv Pedagogical Institute. In 1999 the institute was renamed Mykolaiv Pedagogical University, and in 2002 was granted a state university status. In 2010 the university was granted the national university status and assumed its current name. The university consists of eight faculties: history, political science, and law; philology; mechanics-mathematics; pedagogy and psychology; foreign languages; the methodology of pre-school and elementary education; biology; economics; and physical education. The university’s library holdings number over 470,000. Its student enrollment is approximately 10,000.
