Mizhhiria [Mižhirja]. Map: V-4. A town smt (2001 pop 9,656) on the Rika River and a raion center in Transcarpathia oblast. It was founded in the 13th century and is first mentioned in historical documents in 1415. It attained smt status in 1947, and its name was changed from Volove to Mizhhiria in 1953. The town has a forest-products complex, a sanatorium, and tourist centers.
