Levytsky, Volodymyr F. [Левицький, Володимир; Levyc’kyj], b 6 June 1854 in Starostyntsi, Vinnytsia county, Podilia gubernia, d 26 October 1939. (Photo: Volodymyr F. Levytsky.) Economist and statistician; full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR from 1925. A graduate of Odesa University (1878), he taught political economy at the Demidov Lyceum in Yaroslavl, at Kharkiv University (1893–1917), and at the Kharkiv Agricultural Institute (1919–30). He wrote a number of books in economic history and political economy, including Sel’skokhoziaistvennyi krizis vo Frantsii (1861–1892) (The Agricultural Crisis in France [1861–1892], 1899), Istoriia politicheskoi ekonomii v sviazi s istoriei khoziaistvennogo byta (The History of Political Economy in Relation to the History of Agricultural Life, 1914), and Ocherki istorii khoziaistvennogo byta narodov drevnego Vostoka: Vaviloniia, Egipet (Outlines of the History of the Economic Life of the Peoples of the Ancient East: Babylonia, Egypt, 1926).
