Levytsky-Sofroniv, Vasyl or Sofroniv-Levytsky [Левицький-Софронів or Софронів-Левицький, Василь; Levyc'kyj, Vasyl'], b 14 December 1899 in Stryhantsi, Stryi county, Galicia, d 1 November 1975 in Toronto. Editor and author. Levytsky graduated from Charles University in Prague and worked as an editor of Hospodars’ko-kooperatyvnyi chasopys (1933–44) and Litopys Chervonoï kalyny (1929–39) in Lviv. He came to Canada in 1950 and worked on the editorial staff of Vil’ne slovo (1954–60) and Novyi shliakh (1960–72) in Toronto. He served as president of the Ukrainian Journalists' Association of Canada (1967–9). He is the author of 14 books of fiction, plays, and essays. He also translated French and German classics into Ukrainian. An edition of his selected works was published in 1972.
