Kopach, Ivan
Kopach, Ivan [Копач, Іван; Kopač], b 4 March 1870 in Hrozova, Turka county, Galicia, d 7 October 1952 in Lviv. Classical philologist, philosopher, educator, and civic leader. Kopach received a PH D from the University of Vienna (1901), then taught at the Academic Gymnasium of Lviv before becoming the regional inspector of Ukrainian gymnasiums in Galicia (1908–29). He was the president of the Boian music society and the Ukrainska Besida club. After the Soviet occupation of Western Ukraine he was appointed professor of philosophy at Lviv University. Kopach wrote a number of articles on Greek philosophy, Latin philology, and pedagogical and philosophical issues, and coauthored a secondary-school Latin grammar and a Ukrainian reader.
