Kinakh, Hlib

Kinakh, Hlib [Кінах, Гліб; Kinax], b 5 October 1888 in Zbarazh, Galicia, d 29 January 1980 in Rome, Italy. Basilian priest; church historian. From 1920 he was active in Transcarpathia. In 1939 he was transferred to Prešov to oversee the eparchial library and to edit Prešov eparchy’s publications. From 1946 he lived in Rome, where he held various offices on the executive of the Basilian monastic order, including archimandrite. He contributed to Naukovyi zbirnyk Tovarystva Prosvita, in which his materials on the history of the Ukrainian church in Transcarpathia appeared, and to Analecta Ordinis S. Basilii Magni/Zapysky ChSVV, in which his most important work, ‘Zapysnyk’ (Notebook), on early Basilian reform in Transcarpathia, appeared posthumously (1985).
