Kharkiv Mathematics Society

Kharkiv Mathematics Society ( Kharkivske matematychne tovarystvo). Society founded in 1879 at Kharkiv University to promote the study of mathematics. The organizer and first president was V. Imshenetsky. Since 1947 it has had two sections: scientific research and pedagogy. The society published protocols of its meetings from 1879 to 1888 and the journal Soobshcheniia Khar’kovskogo matematicheskogo obshchestva from 1888 to 1956. Since then, it has published a journal together with the mathematics department of Kharkiv University in the series Uchenye zapiski Khar’kovskogo universiteta. Its members have included Dmytro Grave, Aleksandr Liapunov, and Vladimir Steklov.
