Interparty Council

Interparty Council (Mizhpartiina rada). A political body founded in 1919 in Lviv after the Ukrainian-Polish War in Galicia, 1918–19. It co-ordinated the legal struggle of the Ukrainian Labor party (formerly the National Democratic party), the Ukrainian Radical party, the Ukrainian Social Democratic party, and the Christian Social party against the Polish occupation of Galicia. The council's chairmen were Volodymyr M. Bachynsky and, later, A. Kurovets. It had close ties with Yevhen Petrushevych's Government-in-exile of the Western Ukrainian National Republic and funded the clandestine Ukrainian Military Organization. In January 1922 the Social Democratic party adopted a pro-Soviet platform. In March 1923 the Allied Conference of Ambassadors recognized Poland's annexation of Galicia and the government-in-exile was dissolved. Consequently, in May 1923 the Radical party left the council, a schism developed in the Labor party, and the council fell apart.
