Institutes of social education

Institutes of social education (інститути соціяльного виховання; instytuty sotsialnoho vykhovannia). Postsecondary pedagogical institutions organized in 1930 in the Ukrainian SSR out of the faculties of social education of the institutes of people's education. They offered three-year programs that qualified graduates to teach in seven-year schools or pedagogical tekhnikums, or to supervise children’s clubs. The Kharkiv Institute of Social Education was the first institute to obtain a department for the protection of minors and a department for instructors of people’s education. In 1933 the institutes of social education were reorganized into pedagogical institutes.
