Hoshkevych, Viktor
Hoshkevych, Viktor [Гошкевич, Віктор; Hoškevyč], b 21 March 1860 in Kyiv, d 2 March 1928 in Kherson. Archeologist and museologist. While working for the Kherson gubernia statistical committee, he did archeological research in the Kherson region. In 1890 he established a museum in Kherson (now the Kherson Regional Studies Museum) with a rich archeological collection consisting mostly of Greek, Scythian, and Sarmatian materials. He published a museum newsletter and the daily Kherson newspaper Iug (1898–1907). He is the author of Klady i drevnosti Khersonskoi gubernii (Hoards and Antiquities of Kherson Gubernia, 1903) and Drevnie gorodishcha po beregam nizovogo Dnepra (Ancient Fortified Settlements on the Banks of the Lower Dnipro River, 1913).
