Holubnychy, Vsevolod

Holubnychy, Vsevolod [Голубничий, Всеволод; Holubnyčyj], b 5 June 1928 in Bohodukhiv, Kharkiv okruha, d 10 April 1977 in New York, New York State, USA. Economist and political figure; member of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts and Sciences in the United States. He left Ukraine with his family in 1943 and emigrated to the United States of America in 1951. He studied economics at Columbia University (PH D 1971) and from 1962 taught at Hunter College, City University of New York. Holubnychy was a leading member of the Ukrainian Revolutionary Democratic party, particularly of its left-wing faction, and editor of its periodicals Iunats'ka borot'ba and Vpered (Munich). He published many works on Soviet regional economics, Ukrainian-Russian economic relations, Ukrainian economic and political history, and Marxist economic theory and philosophy. He contributed entries to Entsyklopediia ukraïnoznavstva and served as its economics subject editor. Some of his works have been published posthumously in Soviet Regional Economics: Selected Works of Vsevolod Holubnychy, edited by Iwan Koropeckyj (1982).
