Holubets, Mykhailo

Holubets, Mykhailo [Голубець, Михайло; Holubec', Myxajlo], b 30 October 1930 in Liubin Velykyi, Horodok (Lviv region) county, Galicia, d 14 August 2016 in Lviv. Botanist; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR from 1978, full member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine from 1990. Holubets graduated from the Lviv Agricultural Institute in 1953. He worked at the Scientific Research Institute of Land Cultivation and Animal Husbandry of the Western Regions of Ukraine (1957–62) and the Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1963–70), and from 1970 to 1974 he was the director of the Academy’s natural science museum (now Natural Science Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) in Lviv. From 1974 he directed the Lviv branch of the Institute of Botany (now Institute of the Ecology of the Carpathians of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine). Holubets conducted research in geobotany, ecology, and nature conservation.
