Dutka, Ivan

Dutka, Ivan, b 25 May 1899 in Lenkivtsi near Chernivtsi, d 28 March 1940 in Chernivtsi. Stage actor and director in Bukovyna. In 1918–33 Dutka worked with the troupes of Kateryna Rubchak, Sydir Terletsky, and I. Dudych. From 1933 to 1939 he was an actor and director in the drama group of the Bukovynskyi Kobzar society in Chernivtsi. Dutka performed leading roles in the plays Dovbush by Yurii Fedkovych and Nazar Stodolia by Taras Shevchenko, and the role of Ion in I.L. Caragiale's Năpastă (False Witness). He directed productions of Mykhailo Starytsky's Taras Bul’ba, Borys Hrinchenko's Yasni zori (Bright Stars), A. Strindberg's The Father, and other plays.
