Dobrynia

Dobrynia. Uncle and viceroy of the grand prince of Kyiv, Volodymyr Sviatoslavych (see Volodymyr the Great); brother of the wife of Prince Sviatoslav I Ihorovych Malusha. Dobrynia was the guardian of the young Volodymyr Sviatoslavych at Novgorod the Great until 970 and later became viceroy of the city. In 985 he took part in Volodymyr's campaign against Bulgaria and assisted him in propagating Christianity in Kyivan Rus’.
