Chervonyi prapor (Winnipeg)
Chervonyi prapor (Winnipeg) (Red Flag). The first Ukrainian socialist newspaper in North America. It was published by the Ukrainian local of the Socialist Party of Canada (SPC) in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and appeared in 18 issues from 15 November 1907 to August 1908. Pavlo Krat, V. Holovatsky, and Myroslaw Stechishin were its editors. As the vanguard of socialism among Ukrainian workers and farmers it stimulated the creation of Ukrainian branches of the SPC. It was succeeded by Robochyi narod (1909–18). Chervonyi prapor was the first periodical to use the term Ukrainian (spelled ‘Ookrainian’) in Canada.
