Borisov, Innokentii
Borisov, Innokentii [Борисов, Інокентій], b 27 December 1800 in Elets, Orel gubernia, Russia, d 7 June 1857 in Odesa. Orthodox theologian, bishop of Chyhyryn from 1836, archbishop of the Kharkiv eparchy from 1843 and of Kherson and Tavriia (see Kherson eparchy) from 1847, famous preacher. Borisov studied at the Kyiv Theological Academy and was its rector in 1830–6. He improved the level of instruction there. As a theologian he favored the historical-comparative method. He founded the weekly Voskresnoe chtenie in Kyiv and wrote a number of works on church history and the Holy Scriptures, including Istoricheskoe obozrenie bogosluzhbovykh knig Greko-Rossiiskoi Tserkvi (A Historical Survey of Liturgical Books of the Greco-Russian Church, 1836–43). His sermons and other works were published in 12 volumes in 1901 in Saint Petersburg.
