Boltenko, Mykhailo
Boltenko, Mykhailo [Болтенко, Михайло], b 14 January 1888 in Osowiec, Poland, d 6 May 1959 in Odesa. Archeologist, historian, and philologist. Boltenko worked at the Odesa Archeological Museum and Odesa University. He investigated and wrote about the Usatove culture settlement, the kurhans of the Bronze Age, the ancient Greek settlement on Berezan Island, and the Greek colonies of Olbia and Tyras (see Ancient states on the northern Black Sea coast). He was imprisoned in 1934 and spent 5 years in a GULAG labor camp. After the Second World War he worked at the Chair of Ancient History and Archeology at Odesa University.
