Black grouse
Black grouse (Lyrurus tetrix; Ukrainian: teterev). A bird of the Galliformes order and Tetraonidae family. The average weight is 1.7 kg for the male and 1.3 kg for the female; the average length is 60 cm. It is commonly found in the forest belt and forest-steppe belt of Europe and Asia. At the beginning of the 19th century it was common throughout Ukraine, but it was killed off and survives now only in Polisia and in some areas of the Carpathian Mountains. The black grouse is a valuable commercial bird.
