Berisso
Berisso. City in Argentina, now a suburb of La Plata near Buenos Aires. In 2001 Berisso had a population of 95,021, including about 10,000 Ukrainians and their descendants. Ukrainians began to settle in Berisso in the 1900s. The Ukrainian Catholic church has a parish, a monastery, a novitiate of the Basilian order of nuns with an elementary school in Berisso; the Ukrainian Orthodox church has a parish there; and branches of the cultural-educational Vidrodzhennia society and Prosvita society, with their own buildings, are located in Berisso.
