Barvinsky, Viktor

Barvinsky, Viktor [Барвінський, Віктор; Barvins'kyj], b 9 November 1885 in Bazaliivka, Vovchansk county, Kharkiv gubernia, d 1940 in a GULAG concentration camp. Historian and archivist, professor at Kharkiv Institute of People's Education, and director of the Kharkiv Central Historical Archive. His works deal with Ukraine in the 17th–18th century. They include Krest'iane v Levoberezhnoi Ukraine v XVII-xviii vv. (The Peasants in Left-Bank Ukraine in the 17th–18th Century, 1909) and Iz istorii kozachestva Levoberezhnoi Ukrainy (On the History of the Cossacks of Left-Bank Ukraine, 1910). Barvinsky was sent to a Soviet labor camp in 1937.
