Nova Ukraïna (Prague)

Nova Ukraïna (Prague) [«Нова Україна»; New Ukraine]. A monthly and later irregular journal of literature, politics, scholarship, and community affairs, published in Prague in 1922–8. A major émigré journal of the 1920s, it contained a chronicle of developments in Soviet Ukraine, Galicia, and abroad, and extensive book reviews and notes. Nova Ukraïna was closely allied with the Ukrainian democratic socialist movement and was avowedly anti-Soviet and pro–Ukrainian independence. The founder and chief editor was Mykyta Shapoval; he was assisted by Pavlo Bohatsky (1922), Volodymyr Vynnychenko (1923–4), Mykola Halahan, Nykyfor Hryhoriiv (1925–6), Spyrydon Dovhal, B. Zalievsky, and Mykyta Mandryka (1927–8).
