Radysh, Myroslav [Radyš], b 21 October 1910 in Ilyntsi, Sniatyn county, Galicia, d 7 June 1956 in New York. (Photo: Myroslav Radysh.) Painter and scenery designer. A graduate of the Poznań Art School (1938), from 1940 he was chief designer at the Lviv Opera Theater. In 1942–4 he participated in exhibitions organized by the Labor Association of Ukrainian Pictorial Artists. A postwar émigré, he worked as a painter and scenery designer for the Ensemble of Ukrainian Actors in Augsburg, Germany. In 1950 he settled in the United States, where he participated in Ukrainian group shows and had solo shows in New York (1952, 1953) and Philadelphia (1954). Radysh painted portraits, still lifes, and landscapes, such as Madonna (1948), Brooklyn Bridge (1951), Blue Landscape (1954), Mother and Child (1954), By the River (1955), and Factory Smokestacks (1956). His impressionist style evolved toward an ever-greater emphasis on color. A book about him was published by his wife in 1966.
