Zwoliński, Przemysław

Zwoliński, Przemysław, b 26 September 1914 in Opava, Czechoslovakia, d 4 November 1981 in Warsaw. Polish Slavist. A graduate of Lviv University (MA, 1937), he worked there as an assistant (1939–41). After the Second World War he lectured at Wrocław (1945–6), Cracow (1947–52), and Warsaw universities. In 1953 he set up the Ukrainian philology department at Warsaw University, which he chaired until 1970. He wrote articles on the development of the Ukrainian language from the 14th to the 18th century (1956), Ivan Franko as a linguist (1956), Taras Shevchenko’s language (1964), Petro Hulak-Artemovsky’s imitation of Jan Kochanowski’s psalms (1965), and Ivan Kotliarevsky’s work (1970–1) and coedited, with Stefan Hrabec, a Ukrainian-Polish dictionary (1957).
