Zubrytsky, Dionisii

Zubrytsky, Dionisii [Зубрицький, Діонісій; Zubryc'kyj, Dionisij; pseudonym: Torysyn], b 20 June 1895 in Dachiv, Prešov region, d 15 April 1949 in Prešov. Writer, artist, and publicist. He worked as a teacher and later became director of the Prešov Ruthenian Municipal School. In his time he was one of the few writers in the Prešov region who wrote in Ukrainian in addition to the yazychiie. In the 1920s and 1930s his prose, poems, and publicistic and literary articles were published in Transcarpathian and Prešov periodicals, such as Nash ridnyi krai, Vinochok dlia podkarpats’kykh ditochok, Pchilka, Russkaia molodezh, Pidkarpats’ka Rus’, Slovo naroda, and Russkoe slovo (Prešov) (of which he was an editor) and in the almanacs of the Prešov Prosvita society, in which he was active in the 1930s. He promoted the literary use of the vernacular and a Ukrainian identity in the Prešov region.
