Zhuravli

Zhuravli [Журавлі; The Cranes]. A male chorus, founded 1972 in Warsaw by Yaroslav Poliansky, the ensemble's first artistic director and conductor. Since 1983 the chorus has been conducted by Roman Rewakowicz (1983–93), Roman Radziwonowicz (1993–99), Jarosław Lewków (1993–99), and Jarosław Wujcik (2003–). The chorus is affiliated with the Association of Ukrainians in Poland (formerly Ukrainian Social and Cultural Society). It has appeared in Warsaw and other Polish cities and has toured Czechoslovakia, the United States, Canada, and Ukraine. Its repertoire incorporates a variety of eras and genres, including folk songs and historical songs, church music, classical and romantic pieces, and contemporary works. The group performs compositions by Dmytro Bortniansky, Artem Vedel, Mykola Lysenko, Mykola Leontovych, Kyrylo Stetsenko, Sydir Vorobkevych, Petro Nishchynsky, and Platon Maiboroda and arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs by Oleksander Koshyts, Anatolii Avdiievsky, and Poliansky. It has released several recordings.
