Zhuchenko, Mykhailo
Zhuchenko, Mykhailo [Жученко, Михайло; Žučenko, Myxajlo], b 1840 in Kherson gubernia, d 1880 in Paris. Lawyer and civil activist. As a law student at Kharkiv University he was active in the Ukrainophile movement and organized Sunday schools. After becoming a lawyer he often defended populists against political charges. He was a member of the Poltava Hromada and the Kharkiv-Kyiv Secret Society and was, for some time, imprisoned for his activities. He was one of the founders and chief financial supporters of the Shevchenko Scientific Society in Lviv.
