Zhuchenko, Fedir
Zhuchenko, Fedir [Жученко, Федір; Žučenko], b ? in Poltava, d 1709 in Paris. Political activist. He is mentioned in the ‘Register of the Entire Zaporozhian Army’ as a Cossack who participated in Bohdan Khmelnytsky’s uprisings and the Cossack-Polish War. In 1659 he spoke out against Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky, and in 1659–91 he intermittently held the post of colonel of Poltava regiment. He supported Yurii Khmelnytsky and Ivan Samoilovych and participated in the 1678 Chyhyryn campaign (see 1677–8 Chyhyryn campaigns) and the 1687 and 1689 campaigns in the Crimea. He opposed Hetman Ivan Mazepa and supported Vasyl Kochubei and Ivan Iskra. For his support of Petro Petryk he was removed from his post, but he remained a ‘recognized and notable military fellow.’
