Zerov, Dmytro
Zerov, Dmytro [Зеров, Дмитро], b 20 September 1895 in Zinkiv, Poltava gubernia, d 20 December 1971 in Kyiv. Botanist, brother of Mykola Zerov and Mykhailo Orest; full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR from 1948. A graduate of Kyiv University (1922), he taught there (1920–57) and worked for the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (VUAN) (from 1921). In 1946–63 he was director of the Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. He wrote Torfovi mokhy Ukraïny (Peat Mosses of Ukraine, 1928) and Bolota URSR (Wetlands of the Ukrainian SSR, 1938) and edited the journal Ukraïns’kyi botanichnyi zhurnal, the multivolume Flora URSR, Vyznachnyk roslyn Ukraïny (Field Guide to Plants of Ukraine, 1965), and Vyznachnyk hrybiv Ukraïny (Field Guide to Fungi of Ukraine, 1967).
