Zbruch River
Zbruch River [Збруч; Zbruč]. A left-bank tributary of the Dnister River that flows southward for 244 km along the border between Khmelnytskyi oblast and Ternopil oblast and drains a basin area of 3,395 sq km. The river is 5–10 m wide in its upper region and 15–20 m (with a 50-m maximum width) in its lower part and has an average depth of 1.5–2 m. The river is notable for its meandering course. A water reservoir and small hydroelectric station are situated on it. The Zbruch formed part of the border between the Russian Empire and Galicia (then in the Austrian Empire) in 1772–1917 and then between the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and Poland in 1921–39.
