Zasiv
Zasiv («Засів»; Sowing Time). A weekly newspaper published in Kyiv in 1911–12 (a total of 65 issues). It was the continuation of Selo and had the same basic orientation and major contributors. A popular publication intended for peasants and workers, it reported primarily on developments in the Ukrainian countryside and on the growth of the Ukrainian national movement. Zasiv was initiated and edited in 1911 by Mykhailo Hrushevsky; in 1912 the paper was published by Oleksander Stepanenko and edited by him, Oleksander Oles, and Yurii Tyshchenko (Siry). The tsarist authorities confiscated issues and frequently imposed fines, and thereby forced the paper to go bankrupt.
