Zamoyski
Zamoyski. A family line of Polish magnates, originating with Tomasz Łaziński, who purchased a large estate in the Stara Zamość region (hence the Zamoyski name) in the early 15th century. Members of the family occupied important state positions in the Polish kingdom and played a significant role in Ukrainian affairs. The most notable family figure was Jan Zamoyski (1542–1605), the Polish chancellor and royal grand hetman. He was a close political adviser to Stephen Báthory and later a supporter of Sigismund III Vasa (although he eventually came into conflict with him). He also founded the Zamostia Academy in 1595.
