Zahrodsky, Andrii

Zahrodsky, Andrii [Загродський, Андрій; Zahrods'kyj, Andrij], b 2 December 1886 in Zelenkiv, Uman county, Kyiv gubernia, d 30 November 1948 in Kyiv. Philologist and linguist; brother of Oleksander Zahrodsky. After graduating from Warsaw University (1912) he taught Russian and Ukrainian in Kyiv. He was a docent at Kyiv University (1938–41, 1944–8) and worked at the Scientific Research Institute of Pedagogy of Ukraine (1943–8). He wrote a Ukrainian grammar for use in secondary schools (1938), which was reprinted annually until 1959, and articles on Ukrainian orthography and the methodology of teaching the Ukrainian language.
