Zahorovsky, Vasyl

Zahorovsky, Vasyl [Загоровський, Василь; Zahorovs'kyj, Vasyl'], b ?, d 1577 or 1580 in the Crimea. Volhynian nobleman of the Zahorovsky family; son of Petro Zahorovsky. He worked in Volhynia as a tax official for the Polish Commonwealth and as vicegerent of Bratslav in Podilia. During the Crimean Tatars’ invasion of Volhynia (1576) he was taken captive. In confinement he recorded his testament (1577), in which he paid particular attention to the upbringing of his children. That cultural-historical document was published in Arkhiv Iugo-Zapadnoi Rossii (1859). Zahorovsky died in captivity.
