Yarema, Yakym
Yarema, Yakym [Ярема, Яким; Jarema, Jakym], b 23 March 1884 in Arlamivska Volia, Mostyska county, Galicia, d 15 December 1964 in Lviv. Psychologist, philosopher, literary scholar, and educator. A graduate of Graz University (1908), he was a professor at the Ukrainian Higher Pedagogical Institute in Prague (1923–30) and director of the Ukrainian Gymnasium in Czechoslovakia (1925–7). After returning to Galicia he taught at the Ridna Shkola gymnasium in Ternopil. After the Second World War he headed the Department of Foreign Languages at the Lviv Veterinary Institute. He wrote an introductory philosophy textbook (1924), a psychology textbook (1925), a book on educational psychology (1926), studies of Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Franko, Markiian Shashkevych and Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, and Ukrains'ka dukhovist' v ïï kul'turno-istorychnykh vyiavakh (Ukrainian Spirituality in Its Cultural-Historical Manifestations, 1937).
