Western Caucasia (Західній Кавказ; Zakhidnii Kavkaz). The western section of the Great Caucasus Range. It runs for approximately 500 km from the Kerch Strait in the northwest to the source of the Kuban River in the southeast. The Black Sea area of Western Caucasia (in the Russian Federation) has extensive Ukrainian settlement (in the Kuban) whereas only the northwestern corner of the Abkhaz Autonompus Republic (also included in this geographic zone) has any significant Ukrainian population.
