Vovk, Andrii
Vovk, Andrii [Вовк, Андрій], b 15 October 1882 in Delky, Poltava gubernia, d 11 February 1969 in Neu-Ulm, West Germany. Senior army officer. A regular officer in the Russian army during the First World War, in 1917 he Ukrainianized Russian army units on the Rоmanian front and then joined the Army of the Ukrainian National Republic. He was commander of the Fifth Infantry Rural Division (1918) and the Fourth Rifle Division (1919), and deputy commander of the Kyiv Division during the First Winter Campaign. In the summer of 1920 he briefly commanded the Kyiv Division. He was one of the founders of the Society of UNR Army Soldiers (1924) and first president of the Ukrainian Military History Society (1925–29). In 1940–2 he was president of the Ukrainian Hromada in Germany, and after the Second World war he remained in West Germany. He was promoted to brigadier general by the Government-in-exile of the Ukrainian National Republic, and headed its military department (1957–61).
