Vilinsky, Mykola [Вілінський, Микола; Vilins’kyj], b 14 May 1888 in Holta (now part of Pervomaisk), Ananiv county, Kherson gubernia, d 9 September 1956 in Kyiv. Composer and pedagogue. He graduated from (1919) and then worked at (1920–41) the Odesa Conservatory. He later taught in Tashkent (1941–4) and Kyiv (1944–56) and headed the Faculty of Composition at the Kyiv Conservatory from 1948. His works include the cantata Moldavia (1939), three symphonic suites (1932, 1933, and 1944), chamber music, pieces for piano, and art songs. He also edited the piano works of Mykola Lysenko for publication in the 1950s.
